Emergency services departments in Nelson County are getting a technological upgrade and Wintergreen Police are included in the effort.

The new system is made up of several parts–a Computer-Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, record management, and evidence and incident management, Emergency Services Coordinator Russell Gibson told The Nelson County Times.

“We are excited to join our emergency response services partners in the county in this endeavor,” Wintergreen Chief of Police Dennis Russell says. Officials began rolling out the system on June 9.

Russell says the Wintergreen Police Department has used its current software for some 20 years and it had reached its end of life use. “This new system of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Report Management System (RMS) will advance our record-keeping abilities,” he says.

“Although we will not have the Mobile Data Terminals in our patrol vehicles, our officers’ workflow from dispatch, to investigate to writing a report will be more streamlined and efficient,” Russell notes. “The software will also assist us in our collection of proofs of compliance with the Virginia Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.”
