Property owners are responsible for their leaves and limbs

Owners looking for help in maintaining their property have a lot of good options to chose from. Many local companies offer services that include leaf and debris removal. A list of local contractors can be found HERE.

Urban areas often provide leaf removal services. Homeowners can blow their leaves to the curb and a crew will eventually come by and suck them up. WPOA is not staffed, nor are we equipped, to provide this service.

Instead, we count on our owners to handle their property’s yard waste while we focus on the common areas and our community facilities.

With more than 54 miles of roadway, leaves, sticks and other debris are a constant source of work. The majority of what falls in and around the roadways can be blown back into the forest landscape.

We use tractors with blowers to try and keep the ditches clear so rain and stormwater can move. In a few areas within the community, we are forced to utilize a leaf vacuum method for removal. The leaf vacuum process is slow, labor-intensive, and expensive.

Severe storm events can provide short periods of intense cleanup. In these situations, we approach the problem utilizing WPOA staff and the help of hired contractors.

How many crews we deploy depends on the extent of the damage, our resources, and the availability of outside help.

The cleanup often takes weeks, with the first step just focused on getting the roads open. Once everything is back open, we circle back and begin cleaning up the mess.
