On Getting Mail and Packages at Wintergreen
FedEx and UPS deliver to the door of Wintergreen mountain homes. The US Postal Service cannot deliver to mountain homes.
In that it’s often impossible to know which service will be delivering a package or document, all Wintergreen mountain homes using the mailbox kiosk on top of the mountain should ALWAYS address their mail in the EXACT format below so UPS, FedEx, and the postal service all can deliver:
Firstname Lastname
Street address (i.e. 888 Wintergreen Drive)
RR 1 Box [your box number]
Roseland, VA 22967
The U.S. Postal Service updated their database in 2022 that resulted in its sorting equipment no longer recognizing mountain street addresses alone.
USPS mail going to the mountain kiosk without the RR 1 Box # number on the address line above the city, state, and zip code will not reach the Roseland Post Office. The mail without this address information will automatically be returned to the sender by USPS. Learn More
Stoney Creek gets mail to their WPOA-approved mailboxes at each home, while mountain homes need a Post Office box.
Mountain Mail
First class mail delivery is not available to the homes of property owners who live on the mountain. Instead, mail for mountain homes is delivered by the US Postal Service in Roseland, Va., to the WPOA mail kiosk near the Wintergarden (pools and spa) at the top of the mountain. [map]
Mountain mailboxes are available to full-time owners and must be checked frequently. To reserve a box, an application and USPS form will need to be completed. This can be completed by stopping by the WPOA office at 88 Wintergreen Drive. The office is open Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm.
The annual fee (pro-rated by month) is $50 for a small box, the larger mailboxes are $125 (pro-rated by month). A non-refundable setup fee of $25 includes two keys. Lost key replacement fee is $20.
Mailbox dues are billed out on January 1st and are due on February 1st of every year.
(Instead of using the mountain-top mail kiosk, some mountain homeowners prefer to rent PO boxes at the Post Office in Nellysford, Va., which is fully staffed during business hours.)
Stoney Creek Mailboxes
Stoney Creek homes are serviced by rural delivery from the Post Office in Nellysford. Owners of new homes need to have an approved mailbox with their 911 mailing address posted on the box at their driveway and complete an application for service at the Post Office. WPOA-approved outside mailbox posts can be purchased and installed locally, details HERE.
