Major improvements to walking paths underway

The resurfacing of WPOA's walking paths began on July 7th. The new effort started on the gravel path running beside Monocan Drive at the entrance to Stoney Creek (connecting the Farmers Market area to the intersection of Stoney Creek East and West).
The process is similar to what is done on the secondary streets in the community. The major difference being the specialized equipment used for narrow path applications. The resulting smoother, more attractive surface will also be easier and less expensive to maintain than standard asphalt.
If all goes according to plan, this will be the way WPOA maintains its walking paths, eventually replacing all the old, unattractive, broken asphalt and gravel surface paths.

Rolling the chipped stone into the tar is the final step.
The old path surface is cleaned, compacted and sometimes patched before the tar is applied.
The dump truck pours the “chips” (gravel) into the small front-end loader which spreads the tiny gravel onto the path. A vibratory roller follows along next, forcing the gravel chips and tar together and forming a tight bond.
Creation Appreciation has acquired the specialized equipment to resurface Wintergreen’s walking paths as needed. They hope to use this equipment to assist the resort company with their golf cart paths. Homeowners wanting to improve their driveways are another potential market for this new service.
Work on the walking paths involved more than the resurfacing. Areas that had drainage problems or erosion issues have been improved over the last two years.
Creation Appreciation’s Head of Operations Adam Ellinger has been tasked with making this new enterprise work.
