Wintergreen bears can (and do) open unlocked car doors

There were five reports of bears entering unlocked vehicles at Wintergreen in 2017, Jay Roberts reported at the WPOA annual meeting in November. Some bears remained inside the vehicle, consuming headrests, seats, dashboards, and steering wheels.

"There were a total of 64 reported bear sightings at Wintergreen this year–four in the valley and 60 on the mountain," the WPOA Executive Director noted.

"They know how to open car doors, using their claws and teeth. Please observe the Bear Smart rules. The rules allow the bears and us to live together." See the Bear Smart rules HERE
